To you, this may look like just a simple glass taper candleholder… but, I see the base of an endless array of cool crafts! Every time I stop by my Dollar Tree, I find other candleholders, vases, and glassware that I can pair with one of these for a whole new look — really, the possibilities are endless.

With a little glue, I am able to make apothecary jars, hurricane vases, cupcake stands… even funny gift ideas like these wine glasses. And, each item only cost me a couple of bucks.

Today, I want to show you how to make a hurricane vase, but you can use this same technique for creating any of the ideas you see here.

You’ll need:

  • A glass taper candleholder for the base
  • A flared glass vase
  • Sandpaper, and
  • Glue. Make sure the glue you use can adhere to glass. Today, I’m using some Super Glue I picked up at Dollar Tree.

First, lightly sand the bottom of the vase and the top of candlestick holder. This gives the glue a rougher surface to hold on to, making the bond stronger. Wipe off the areas you sanded to remove any dust. Next, put glue on both the bottom of the vase and the top of the taper candleholder. Press the two pieces together, then pull them apart and let them stand for about 10 minutes. This process allows the glue to have a stronger bond. If you use a different type of glue, follow the instructions on your glue for the best results. After 10 minutes, firmly press the two pieces together and set it aside to dry for 24 hours.

Once the piece is dry, you are ready for the fun part… decorating! I made one and filled it with cotton balls for a stylish accent in my bathroom. I made a second one to display on my mantel… I simply added river rocks and a candle — both from Dollar Tree — for this cool look.

I also saved a ton this past year on gifts for my friends! I found these cool lidded jars at Dollar Tree which I, of course, glued to the top of taper candleholders. I added pretty bath salts to each one and had a beautiful gift that all my friends loved and each was less than $4!

So easy, so affordable, and so many different looks… I hope you enjoyed this Dollar Tree Idea!
